Coastal Bend LNG has initiated the formal permitting process for its proposed liquefied natural gas export facility along the Texas Gulf Coast by requesting that the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission begin pre-filing review.
HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--August 3, 2026 -- Coastal Bend LNG announced today that it has initiated the formal permitting and consultation process for its proposed liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility on the Texas Gulf Coast. This milestone follows the completion of initial engineering and environmental studies and marks the transition into the regulatory review phase.
The proposed facility is designed to include four liquefaction trains, each with a capacity of 4.8 million tonnes per annum (MTPA), resulting in a total nameplate capacity of 19.2 MTPA. A key differentiator of the project is its integrated carbon capture and storage (CCS) capabilities, aimed at producing some of the lowest-carbon intensity LNG in the world.
“Initiating the formal permitting process is a significant step forward in our mission to provide the global market with a reliable and sustainable energy source,” said Nick Flores, CEO of Coastal Bend LNG. “Our design, which incorporates ConocoPhillips’ Optimized Cascade® technology and integrated carbon capture, demonstrates our commitment to meeting the world’s energy needs while leading the way in decarbonization.”
The company has engaged with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and other relevant federal and state agencies to begin the pre-filing process. Coastal Bend LNG expects to submit its formal application with FERC in 2027.
“We are seeing strong interest from global off-takers who are increasingly prioritizing low-carbon energy solutions,” said Keith Shoemaker, Chief Commercial Officer of Coastal Bend LNG. “The scale and efficiency of our four-train design, combined with our focus on environmental stewardship, positions Coastal Bend LNG as a premier partner in the global energy transition.”
About the Project
The Coastal Bend LNG project will feature four 4.8 MTPA liquefaction trains, cogeneration facilities, LNG storage tanks, and marine export terminals. By utilizing advanced carbon capture technology, the project aims to significantly reduce the greenhouse gas footprint associated with LNG production.
